The "Important Dates" and "Practice" schedule have been updated with the scrimmage on March 27th.

Thanks for everyone's response to the duffel bag order!

I will place the order today, and will order black bags for all of the boys with their individual names, hopefully in Gold.

The final vote was for individual names on the bags versus GolRush and the boys' numbers, as most felt that the boys would be less likely to pick up the wrong bag if the names were on them.

Responses:

1) GolRush name - 3 votes

2) Boys' Names - 8

3) No preference indicated - 3

Thanks and have fun at the game tomorrow.  I'm headed to the airport and will be offline until March 17th. Hope everyone has a wonderful spring break!!

Great showing this weekend at the tournament.  We have shown that we can match great teams.  As we move into our first regular season game, we take Monday off to rest from the weekend, and practice again on Wednesday at 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM at Burnet Field.  Our game is this Saturday, March 1, at Noon in Manor.  See you at practice on Wednesday at 5:30pm.  GO GOL RUSH,   Preston

updated by Preston on Feb 25, 2008 at 07:00 AM

As we head into the last match of our pre-season tournament, we can build on our first two games and have fun in our third.  We will continue to build on this weekend's experience as we move into our regular season games.  Passing, winning balls, tough on defense, crossing and shooting, and keeping our shape are key areas we continue to develop.

Please arrive by 10:15 AM for warm-up for our 11 AM match on NEMP #9.  Bring both jersey sets just in case there is a conflict requiring us to change.  As visitors, we will plan to wear our Gol-Rush T shirts and white socks.

I am looking forward to our third match.  GO GOL-RUSH - Preston

updated by Preston on Feb 24, 2008 at 08:11 AM

There is not a "snack/drink schedule" this season.  Please plan on bringing healthy snacks during the tournament for your family group.  So now you will not have worry all season whether or not it is your turn to show up with a cooler of goodies!  Instead we will be asking for a donation towards some cool gear (ie:  water bottles, ball packs, etc) for the players to use.  Easier and we hope the "young men" appreciate this gesture more.  Go Gol Rush!  And no hot dates Friday night..... at least for players.

Gol Rush Championship Tees---Cost $15.00 each.  Players' tees are free.  If you ordered an extra (or a few extra) shirts please pay me (cash or check is fine) and will have your shirts with me all weekend.

See Roster for my phone number. Go Gol Rush!

Champions are made by risking more than others think is safe, dreaming more than others think is practical, and expecting more than others think is possible.

As we prepare for our final tournament of the year, let me take this opporunity to thank all the boys for the effort, hustle, and enthusiasm demonstrated this Spring '08 season.  While I certainly appreciate the effort put forward, I want to express that this has been another fun and exciting season.  I look forward to seeing you all at practice and let's enter this final tournament with Gol Rush pride, determination, and fervor.  Who are we?  A fine team with some excellent young men.

“Our biggest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.

There is a key which, if properly used and understood, will ensure the success of any endeavor - the key is desire.  If we are willing to pay any price - even our circumstances change.  If we want something badly enough, we are sure to get it.  If we have the desire, we have the power.

Progress begins a step at a time.   There is no sudden leap to greatness.  Our success lies in doing day by day.  The upward reach comes from working carefully and well.  Good work done little by little becomes great work.  The house of success is built brick by brick.

Welcome to D-II soccer

As some of you picked up on this weekend some of the teams that we will be facing take this game pretty serious.  I, as a coach would be negligent in my duties if I do not prepare our team adequately.  My philosophy of coaching has not changed as I continue to emphasize three components toward the team approach: have fun, play as a team, and hustle.

I watch some of the boys at practice approach this game as they choose.   I continously preach to our boys at practice that "you will play as you practice."  If they choose to not pass, hustle, and play as a team member during practice time then this will be reflected during match play.

I would like to encourage our players to approach practice and games with a little more urgency.  This season is a little different as the level of competition has changed.  This is no longer D-III soccer (recreation).

D-II soccer is a faster game, with faster and quicker players and our opponents approach is with a more serious attitude regarding winning.  We have to match our opponents intensity.

Thank you.

Who Wants It More?

updated by Anthony on Feb 17, 2008 at 09:50 AM

Thank you for participating with another GOL RUSH season. The GOL RUSH '08 campaign will be an exciting season and will provide many opportunities for our young men to develop on and off the pitch. Communication and leadership are two facets of the game that will be emphasized, as these are ingredients that will ensure a successful season.

Who wants it more?

While not at practice, each Gol-Rush player needs to excercise (bike, run, outdoor play, etc) and practice control.  With conditioning, our game will get easier as we become quicker and faster.  Conditioning also gives us more time to control and play the ball.  Conditioning is a key element in a team's success.  Soccer is a fast sport.  For control, the key is trapping, passing and dribbling.  Simple feints, such as step-overs, (or fake stepping to one side and using the outside other foot to move the ball into space) are useful to move the ball past an opposing player to create a lane for passing.  Take a quick look under Quick Links under "Preston's Training Info" and Soccer Drill Videos.  I am confident you can find one or two you can practice and perhaps condition at the same time.

updated by Preston on Feb 25, 2008 at 07:06 AM

Anthony and I are excited to take on another season of Gol-Rush soccer. To kick off the season and rub-off the cob-webs, we want to have a soccer "practice" this coming Saturday at 10:30am till noon. We'll work on conditioning, some reminder drills, and scrimmage.
